The Ukrainian company demands from Gazprom 12 billion dollars of compensation because of the possible termination of transit through the territory of the Pipe for the Nord Stream — 2 gas pipeline. Photo: Jens Buettner/DPA/TASS Naftogaz has started "plan B". In connection with construction "Nord Stream — 2" the Ukrainian gas company initiated new international arbitration. Last year transit of the Russian gas through Ukraine has reached 90 billion cubic meters - it is an absolute record for the last eight years. Kiev expected that in the long term fuel supply to the European consumers on the gas transmission system will exceed 110 billion cubes. But "Nord Stream — 2" has crossed out all courageous plans. The contract for transit of gas through Ukraine comes to an end at the end of the next year. By this moment "Nord Stream — 2" already have to put into operation. Because of it Naftogaz can lose a considerable share of transit. He has estimated the losses at 12 billion dollars and initiated new international arbitration. However, it is unlikely this business will have some prospects, the chairman of the board of the Moscow legal agency Alexey Linetsky considers: Alexey Linetsky the chairman of the board of the Moscow legal agency "Most likely, now some bases at the Ukrainian side is to submit such not absolutely standard, logical claim. But at first sight, they are especially not visible. Most likely, the Ukrainian side has carried out such emotional and political action once again to draw attention to a problem of the Ukrainian transit. And as "Nord Stream — 2", most likely, will be realized, the Ukrainian side very about it worries. But it is improbable that for the Ukrainian side this claim will end with a certain victory, especially with the satisfaction of their requirements on these 12 billion for transit which isn't coordinated yet". And to worry to the Ukrainian side is because of what. Transit, of course, won't stop completely, but will be reduced many times, the head of analytical management of National Energy Security Fund Alexander Pasechnik:aleksandr Pasechnik the head of analytical management of National Energy Security Fund "says 12 billion they can earn from transit, roughly speaking, a five-years period at least. I don't think that this "plan B" at them has actually some real story with execution. Ukraine can keep some certain volume, 15 billion, maybe, 20 billion cubic meters. It is the annual volume which can exist at start "Nord Stream — 2". But in Naftogaz consider that they should leave bigger volume, somewhere to 45 billion cubic meters a year. But such volume won't be". The chairman of the board of Gazprom Alexey Miller in April of this year called smaller volumes of possible transit of gas through Ukraine — 10-15 billion cubic meters. But it won't provide to the Ukrainian pipe even the minimum level of profitability. The minimum loading of GTS — 25 billion cubic meters. Then transit payment at least will cover production costs.
